The Ultimate Sacrifice

May 28, 2010

American flagMemorial Day Weekend. For many Americans the holiday weekend means gathering with family, going to the lake, having a cookout…celebrating.

For many others, it’s a time of remembering someone dear who gave the ultimate sacrifice in fighting for our freedom. We also take time to honor those who currently serve in the military as well as military veterans.

We owe so much to these faithful men and women who risk their lives to secure our freedom. To the families of those who have lost loved ones…we remember with you. To those who served or are currently serving…we say thank you!

When I think of giving one’s life for another person’s freedom, I can’t help but think of the sacrifice of Christ. He gave His life so that we might live and experience freedom from the captivity of our own sin.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 [NIV]

“…He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…” Isaiah 61.1

Because of the sacrifice of Christ, one day all the wars will be over. What a glorious day that will be! But until then we will remember and honor all the men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. And we will continue to honor and give thanks to those who fight for our freedom today. May God bless you and protect you!
