Taking the Time to Invest My L.I.F.E.

July 9, 2010

It just may be that time is indeed our most valuable asset. Time cannot be earned, or reclaimed; it can only be spent. Yet I often find myself wondering if my use of time is an investment or a waste. Ironically, only time will tell! Here’s a story that has ended well…..

I just received an email update from Abraham, a fellow music missionary in India. I first met Abraham in Singapore in 1998. I, my wife, and our 3 sons, the youngest being 2 months old, were called to invest our time in training musicians and communicators in evangelism. I won’t lie, traveling around the world with three children under five was a challenge. Looking back and considering the fruit it appears to be time well spent.

  • My children have developed a love for travel and an appreciation for different cultures that would have been much more difficult to foster in the US.
  • Many of those friendships are dear to my family and me to this day.
  • The missionaries we trained have trained many others and are working in some very dangerous places such as Cambodia, Myanmar, and India.

And of course there is Abraham:

Over the years I have invested a lot of time staying in touch with Abraham. Sometimes it would be over a year of waiting for a response from Abraham, yet I continued on, trusting God for the partnership the He established. The investment paid off as Abraham was able to come to Keynote last year for our Global Music and Creative Arts Ministry Leader’s Summit. It has been much easier to keep up with Abraham this past year and his last report garnered a “huge payout” for the time invested.

This is what Abraham had to say about his work in India:

“The worship album in Kinnauri language (the native language of the Kinnaur people in the state of Himachal Pradesh in North India) is COMPLETE!!! This album is part of our initiative to give people groups, that are turning to Christ, worship songs in the language of their heart with their own style of music, so that they do not have to turn to another language to worship God. Pending its release in a few weeks, this album also includes a gospel presentation aimed at reaching out to non-Christians too.”

I am so glad I took the time to invest in and stay in touch with Abraham. Please let us know about your own experiences investing time. Let us spur one another on to good deeds and not grow weary in doing good, for in due time we shall indeed reap.
