Friday Flashback

February 11, 2011

[In 2011 Keynote celebrates 45 years of ministry. We thought we would use our Friday posts to look back on God’s faithfulness through the years.]

In 1966 a group of college students and Campus Crusade staff started a band: The New Folk. Using contemporary music heard on the radio and songs they had written, they were able to share the gospel with 250,000 students on 200 college campuses that first year alone. Hearing the gospel in a contemporary “language” was very powerful and the response to the message of Christ was enthusiastic! A new ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ was bornThe Music Ministry, now known as Keynote!

From the very beginning, the heart of our ministry has been to use pop-culture as a way to communicate the gospel. Paul gives us a model of this type of ministry in Acts chapter 17 when he reasoned in the marketplace with philosophers and poets. He quoted the “poets of the day” and used their words as a way to begin a dialogue about Jesus.

During that first year of ministry, a young man named Pete heard the New Folk. Last year we heard the rest of his story

Let us hear about some of your memories from The New Folk.
