Friday Flashback

March 11, 2011

[In 2011 Keynote celebrates 45 years of ministry. We thought we would use our Friday posts to look back on God’s faithfulness through the years.]

In order to accommodate more outreach opportunities, two versions of The New Folk began touring in the summer of 1967 – an East coast version and a West coast version. Initially the programs for the two groups were the same. Michael Omartian served with the group in the West and began writing some songs for them. Both groups continued to perform for college audiences and military personnel.

Between 1967 and 1973, several groups were launched including the Great Commission Company, Fantasia Red, White and Blue, Armageddon, Gideon’s Band and Harvest. The Foreunners toured in Europe as part of the University Ambassador Team. More on The Forerunners in a future post.

You may enjoy seeing the picture below of one of the early bands sharing the gospel. As the band began to describe how sin separates us from God, a plastic bubble would cover the band, separating them from the audience.
