Friday Flashback

April 1, 2011

[In 2011 Keynote celebrates 45 years of ministry. We thought we would use our Friday posts to look back on God’s faithfulness through the years.]

If a miracle is something so life-changing and historically significant that it can only be accounted for by saying, “God did it,” then EXPLO ’72 was a miracle. It was a life-changing, historically significant experience for more than 80,000 people, including college and high school students from the United States and 70 other countries.

At the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, they met to study the Word of God, cultivate their relationships with Jesus Christ, enjoy the bond of fellowship and love and learn how to share their joy in knowing Christ personally with everyone they meet. A Jesus Music Festival (sort of a Christian version of “Woodstock”), attended by 180,000 people, climaxed the week.

Prior to EXPLO ’72, in a first-ever conference for Christian artists, the Music Ministry (now known as Keynote) helped train musicians to use their talents in evangelism and discipleship. Daily seminars and mini-concerts were given by various artists including Andre Crouch and the Disciples.

The June 1988 ten-year anniversary issue of Contemporary Christian Music Magazine credits EXPLO ’72 with helping to launch contemporary Christian music.

We thought you might enjoy a sampling of the sights and sounds from EXPLO ’72. Please let us know if you attended or if you find yourself in the following video!
