More Than a Circle of Friends

November 19, 2012

Joey was still looking for a circle of new friends almost two months into the fall semester at University of South Dakota. While freshmen enjoyed lots of opportunities to plug in, this sophomore transfer was falling through the cracks.

Thanks to MissionHub, Joey got an email from Cru about The Fall Getaway. “This actually sounds like a lot of fun, but what if it turns out to be super cliquey?” he thought. “Maybe everyone there already has their group of friends. Do I really want to risk being the awkward guy who shows up alone?” Rather than wonder, Joey typed out his thoughts and fired them back to the sender of the message.

Dusty, a Cru staff member at the University of South Dakota and the one who sent that email, was able to give Joey a call because his info was already stored in MissionHub! The result of a partnership between Keynote and other Cru ministries, MissionHub digitally manages contact info for students who express interest in spiritual things. The same online contact management system that generated Joey’s invitation to the Getaway got him on the phone with Dusty. They met on campus later that day.

Dusty told Joey the Fall Getaway was designed for people just like him. Though not a Christian himself, finding out that Cru was a Christian group did not keep Joey from signing up to go. As a result, he spent three fun days hearing the gospel and hanging out with a caring community of students passionate about connecting him with Jesus. Best of all, Joey gave his life to Christ two weeks later!

Thank you for helping us to develop digital strategies to keep students like Joey from falling through the cracks. I praise God that Joey began a relationship with Jesus, and I invite you to pray with me that Joey’s new faith would flourish this semester.
