Thoughts from Past Summer Project Students

Derek
“God used Keynote to teach me that even through my weakness, He can do beautiful things. That sounds so vague, but it’s true! He let me join in His glorious work of restoring all of creation to Himself. He didn’t need me, but he let me help. I had the chance to write a guest blog post for Keynote about my experience reaching out in prisons on Summer Project. You can read it here. I have a friend who is considering doing a Keynote Summer Project, and I’ve told him that I am convinced that there is no better way he could spend his summer than sharing the gospel through his talents, and that, if he is like me, he’ll look back and realize that doing so was the most important and meaningful thing he’s ever done in his life.”

“It’s really easy to be discouraged and believe the lie that no one in our culture really wants to hear about Jesus. But God blew my mind by the number of people I met that were totally hungry, starving even, to hear more about Him…people that had lived their whole lives and had never heard that God really loved them and wanted to know them. I had forgotten how BEAUTIFUL the Gospel is, and that it can take as little as a conversation for someone to fall in love with Jesus forever! I remember a juvenile prison inmate looking at me and telling me that he wanted his life to change…and he wanted Jesus to be the architect of his new life! With this boy, and with all of the others I prayed with, I was so deeply humbled that God relentlessly pursues us…and that he’ll use broken Christians to love others through us. Summer Project is such an intense time with a community of staff and students in love with Jesus who encourage you to be all that God has made you to be. You may think you’re going to change lives (and God will, through you) – but prepare for yours to be changed as well.”

“Last summer God definitely taught me about stepping out in faith. I was scared out of my mind when I was told that I was going to be giving my testimony at our concerts. I wasn’t sure I could do it. I spent an hour before our dress rehearsal pacing around the room, mumbling to myself, just trying to remember everything I’d have to say. By the end of the tour I actually enjoyed sharing my story. I realized that God was going to show up every time and it became a blessing to share the Good News. It was incredible to see God move. I would encourage you to apply for Keynote Summer Project because it will kick your butt. When we step out in faith, God meets us there. Additionally, it’s fun as anything! Getting to do something you love AND serving God with a bunch of amazing people? Doesn’t get much better than that!”

“God taught me through Keynote that you can find Him in anything. In our stories, our lives, our art- He is there. I also learned that it was okay to be a human being experiencing human emotions. I shed a lot of my walls that I had spent a long time building up and learned the beauty in being the person God created me to be. I would encourage you to apply if you want to be a part of something that’s life-changing. You get to be a part of something much bigger than yourself and you get to jump right into learning how to use your gifts in a way that truly glorifies the Lord and furthers His kingdom.”

Rachel
“Keynote Summer Project taught me about stepping out in faith and trusting God with the results. Throughout the application process, support-raising and then the project itself, there were many times that I was encouraged to take risks like asking people to support me financially, being truly open with my team and reaching out in some unique settings. It was amazing to see how God met me in those times and really taught me more about Himself through it!
God used my time at Keynote to bring me closer to Him through the experiences and the people around me. Being surrounded by people with similar interests who also share my faith was such a blessing and I formed some very close friendships with people all over the country. If God has blessed you with a particular talent and you want to learn more about glorifying Him through that talent, Keynote is a great opportunity to learn new ways to share the gospel.”
