Illuminating the Gospels

March 8, 2011

For those who have “said Yes” to Jesus, the message of the gospel stirs our hearts so much that we never tire of hearing it. Often, I can’t even comprehend a love so great, a sacrifice so deep, a gift so compelling!

We can’t add anything to the gospel, but by telling stories and using art, we can bring “illumination” that helps our minds and hearts grasp a piece of the mystery.

Mako Fujimura recently had the opportunity to do just that – Illuminate the Four Holy Gospels.

An internationally-renown Japanese-American artist, Mako combines ancient traditional Japanese Nihonga with western techniques, creating an art form that is unique and beautiful. Mako has served on the National Council on the Arts since 2003, and his work is shown in New York at Chelsea’s Dillon Gallery. Mako is also the founder of International Arts Movement.

Fox News recently did an interview with Mako about the “Four Gospels” project.

Keynote staff members Bryan and Laurie Horvath serve with the International Arts Movement (IAM) in New York City, working closely with Mako. IAM gathers artists and creative catalysts to wrestle with the deep questions of art, faith, and humanity in order to inspire the creative community to engage the culture that is and create the world that “ought to be.”

We consider it an honor and a privilege to partner with IAM. You may also enjoy reading an interview with Bryan from 2010 that really unpacks the heart of what IAM is doing.
