A Change of Routine; A Change for Life

February 16, 2011

Imagine what it might be like to awaken every day in a small prison cell, knowing your routine will be unchanged from the day before. Oh, maybe you’ll have an opportunity to interact with some different inmates in the prison yard, but still, there is little that would bring any excitement.

Then one day, you find out a band is coming to do a concert. Wow! Enter blue sky nine. Not only will thereblue sky nine concert be a concert, but this band offers hope – hope found in a personal relationship with Christ. It’s not a hope that tomorrow will bring a change in circumstance, but a promise that tomorrow will bring a newness of life; a different perspective and a change in eternal destination.

Jake* took advantage of a change in his routine and attended the blue sky nine concert last week at Gulf Correctional in Florida. Not only was his routine different that day but his eternal destiny was changed! Jake indicated that he made a decision to trust Christ! He also signed up for a new program Keynote just started with Child Evangelism Fellowship.

When a Keynote band performs in a prison, we are able to offer information to the inmates to sign up for Bible study materials for themselves as well as materials for their children back home. Gulf Correctional in Florida was the first time blue sky nine was able to offer these materials. Many of the other inmates really resonated with the program.

Here’s a quote from an email received from one of the chaplains after the event:

“Thank you so much for coming to Gulf C.I. and doing the evangelistic concert! It was a different style of music than what we often have here and I know it was a special treat for the inmates. The Good News of what Christ has done for us was simply and clearly brought in a way, that I could tell, many inmates related to. It was a pleasure to work with your entire group. Please thank them for me.

We would look forward to your coming to Gulf Annex in the future so let me know what works for your group and I will get it set up.”

In addition to the show at Gulf, the band performed seven other shows in prisons. A couple dozen inmates indicated decisions to trust Christ at the shows and close  100 others were interested in talking more about spiritual things. Please continue to pray for the chaplains who will be connecting with these inmates in the coming weeks. We consider it a privilege to join hands with them!
