Friday Flashback

June 17, 2011

[In 2011 Keynote celebrates 45 years of ministry. We thought we would use our Friday posts to look back on God’s faithfulness through the years.]

More great stories from the archives today. As I was sifting through some newsletters from the late ’70s and early ’80s I came across a report from The Great Commission Company and The New Folk in 1978. A combined international outreach tour took these two groups to Latin America where they performed 45 concerts in 28 days in Venezuela, Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico.

I found this most interesting since Keynote has recently been to Colombia for an outreach tour and Guatemala for communication training. The groups performed in churches, high schools and universities with 15 of the concerts being evangelistic. More than 25,000 attended the concerts and more than 4,000 people indicated a decision to trust Christ! In addition, the groups had three national T.V. programs and two radio programs with a possible exposure of 20 million people.

One of the group members, Joyce Rucker commented about the trip:

“I had been very frustrated with the language barrier on the trip and had begun to feel I wouldn’t be able to share with anyone. The next concert was at an English speaking high school. Afterward, as I went about my job taking equipment down, I began to talk to five students. After a few minutes a girl asked, ‘Just how do you make a commitment to Christ?’ I shared the Four Spiritual Laws* and all five prayed to receive Christ.”

*The Four Spiritual Laws is a booklet that outlines the gospel. The booklet is included in the GodTools smart phone app along with other outreach tools.
