Friday Flashback – The Late ’70s

July 8, 2011

[In 2011 Keynote celebrates 45 years of ministry. We thought we would use our Friday posts to look back on God’s faithfulness through the years.]

The late ’70s brought significant changes to The Music Ministry traveling groups. Groups like Santa Fe and Prism were formed from some of the Great Commission Company personnel and began using “the music of the culture” to communicate the unchanging message of the gospel. Until this time, the Campus Crusade music groups had used mostly sacred or original music in their programs.

In 1979, Santa Fe moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Indianapolis, Indiana giving them easy access to the Big Ten college campuses where they did many of their outreach concerts. Band members were able to establish lasting relationships locally, providing for the eventual move of our headquarters to Westfield, Indiana.

In 1978, the training for music ministry became standardized for staff members and The Training Center was formed. Since that time Keynote has been able to offer this same training around the world to help other like-minded ministries establish their own creative outreach ministries and to help them learn to more effectively communicate the gospel.

Stay tuned for more stories, pictures, videos and music in the weeks to come.
