Friday Flashback – The Music of the ’80s

August 5, 2011

[In 2011 Keynote celebrates 45 years of ministry. We thought we would use our Friday posts to look back on God’s faithfulness through the years.]

If you’re just joining us, then let me catch you up a little. We started in 1966 with The New Folk,he first music group with Campus Crusade. We’re making our way through the Keynote/Music Ministry archives to tell about our history and share some great ministry stories. Select “Celebrating 45 years” from the side bar to search for related posts. You’ll find pictures, stories, videos and sound files.

We’re in the early to mid-’80s now. While some of the music groups continued to do events with local churches – recruiting people to join us in fulfilling the Great Commission – new groups and solo artists were doing outreach events on college campuses and in other venues. Groups toured in the U.S, but there were also groups doing ministry overseas.

Pacific, a rock band based in Germany, performed in locations throughout Europe sharing the good news of Jesus. You’ll find a sampling of their music below.

Fire

Castles in the Sand

Prism continued to work with churches, but also offered a different style of music for outreach events with students, military and international ministry. Below are a couple of selections from their two LPs (those are vinyl albums we used to record back in the dark ages!)

Never Gonna Serve Anyone Else but You

Psalm 139

Marajen Denman performed as a solo artist and later served as a trainer for new staff in the area of communication. We still use much of the material she used in our communication training today. Here a couple of tunes from her.

A Winner in Your Eyes

Heavenly Love

Stop by next week to find out about the Keynote band that toured for the greatest number of years. Any guesses?
